Holiday Lights

I love outdoor lights. I don’t do a very large display, but I do a few around my garage. I am not, however, a huge fan of the laser lights. My brother begs to differ. He likes them because they are easy to set up. I heard a woman say that about inflatable decorations as well. I find them a little tacky. With one exception. For some reason, one of my neighbors just does one giant snowman. It always makes me smile. I named him Leon.

This year I took my parents to see an outdoor light extravaganza. I had been to one with my sister at the Chicago Arboretum and it was a magical evening to walk around and see the lights and I wanted that experience again.

I know there are several drive through options that are available around the Twin Cities area. We went to Miracle at Big Rock. They do offer drive through nights, but on most busy weekends it is walk through only. At $20 a ticket, I think it is a great value for an hour of walking around a pond that has been decorated to the max with Christmas lights.  There were sections celebrating the USA and a point for proposals to the Grinch and the Island of misfit toys. My personal favorites were the lights that were on the ground that changed color when you stepped on them. Of course, at the end of the walk there was a gift shop and bars where you could buy drinks as well as a food court with different food truck treats. It was a balmy night the evening we went, which of course was more enjoyable than a colder day. However, with bonfires and hot cocoa stands throughout, there are plenty of ways stay warm.
